TDEC Extends Deadline for Comments to March 15

Just giving everyone an update: You now have more time to make comments on the 10-year plan, details below.

This article appeared in yesterday’s Erwin Record. The deadline for submitting comments on Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s 10-year Statewide Parks, Recreation and Conservation Plan 2030—which includes state parks such as Rocky Fork—is tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 19.

While I can’t explain the short notice, we all still have time to review the document and submit comments. While this document goes into a wide range of issues, the management of state parks is included, buried within the material.

TDEC does not often give us such an opportunity to comment, so I hope folks will take advantage at this time to let your opinion be known to those who manage our parks.

I forgot to ask if you belong to the local Sierra Club? I was wondering if they have seen this! I told ya developers were coming! And I can bet many of our politicians have investments in those companies!

Thanks John. We are going to try and get this out to the TCWP membership in time for comments.

Hope you and Francis are doing well.

Your plan is very comprehensive and well-thought out in addition to being very ambitious! I am especially interested in the protection of Rocky Fork State Park. While I encourage the public to enjoy this area, I hope you will leave it in its beautiful, pristine, natural state as it is a very special place. I would encourage you to study what The Friends of the Smokies have accomplished over the years as well as SAHC (in dealing with conservation and private land). Both organizations have been very effective in protecting the land while helping people to enjoy it in a responsible manner. Thank you for your efforts to get more people outdoors to enjoy our beautiful, natural areas! Nancy Swann,Asheville, NC
